Meet 10:00am in the layby on the road leaving the village to the North Gower road (B84271) at GR 546899 for a circular 2½ hours walk via Park Place, Sandy Lane, Ilston and other hidden places.

Saturday, 29th December. RHOSSILI DOWN CIRCULAR
Meet at 10:00am at the Millennium Stone on the green outside Rhossili Church for approximately two hour walk over the Down to Coety Green and back past Sweynes Houses.

Sunday, 30th December. GOWER SAND AND HILLS
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:30am Penmaen: NT car park behind Church (GR SS 531 888).
Directions: Turn right at the Penmaen sign as you approach from Parkmill. Car park is up lane.
Down to Three Cliffs, over to Oxwich, Mill Wood then back along Cefn Bryn. Generally good views, good ground with a few ups and downs. A moderate 10 mile walk.

Saturday, 12th January. PENCLAWDD & LLANMORLAIS
Meet at 10:00am at the seafront car park between Penclawdd and Crofty (GR SS 534 957) for a 6 mile moderate walk.  Coming from Gowerton go through Penclawdd; as you leave the village the car park is on your right just after the entrance to Graig y coed and opposite Graig y coed playing fields.  We walk up over the Graig, with views over the Loughor Estuary, then take a circular route through the Morlais Valley.  It may be muddy! The walk leader has stated that the terrain of the walk is not suitable for dogs.

Sunday, 13th January. TREVITHICK TRAIL

Meet at 9:00am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 9:50am Merthyr Tydfil Railway Station Car Park, Lat, Lon:  51.7442, -3.3769 (GR SO 0503 0595). Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/dTuwm4AcJF12. We follow the route of Trevithick’s historic journey from the Penydarren Iron Works at Merthyr Tydfil to Navigation Canal Basin, Abercynon. A scenic walk, with history, in open valley and deciduous woodland. Return to Merthyr by train. A strenuous 10 mile walk.

Saturday, 19th January. BEAT THE SAND DUNE 2
 Meet at 10:00am Oxwich Beach front. Fitness in all weathers on rainy or sunny Gower. A walk/run introducing strength and hill training to your weekend walk. Suitable age: not suitable for under twelve years of age.
Brisk walk on sand along the beach to Oxwich pill then a jog to Crawley woods. Rest stop then optional hill climb, run or walk with a technical downhill. There will be tips on downhill running and strength training for hill work. Jog back to Oxwich pill then snack/drink stop before we walk back to the car park. The walk will be no more than three hours. It’s a chance to burn off all those mince pies!

Sunday, 27th January. MILLENNIUM COAST AND ONTO ST ILLTUD’S WALK
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:00am Llanelli: Pwll: Pavilion Cafe (GR SN 476 009). Directions: A484 west to Llanelli and continue through Pwll. After ½ mile, turn left down towards the coast.  Google directions: http://gl/maps/UXDx3. Our walk from Pwll on the Llanelli Millennium Coast will explore coastal and inland paths of the area.  We’ll visit the Wales Coast Path, Furnace, Swiss Valley Lakes and a section of St Illtud’s Walk but not necessarily in that order! A moderate 9-10 mile walk.

February

Saturday, 2nd February. BEAT THE SAND DUNE 3
Meet at 10:00am Penmaen car park (GR SS 526 884).
Fitness in all weathers on rainy or sunny Gower. A walk/run introducing strength and hill training to your weekend walk. Suitable age: not suitable for under twelve years of age.
We will head out walking to Penmaen Burrows passing two sites of historical interest. Walking directly to overlook Three Cliffs Bay we will drop down the sand dune into Three Cliffs and jog around to the bottom of the headland, from here we will be climbing (walk/jog) back up onto the top of the headland to the site of a Norman castle. From here we will run around the perimeter of Tor headland and rest at the top for a drink/snack break. There is an option at this point to put in an extra hill (if you’re very keen). We will then walk and jog gently towards Crawley woods before walking across fields directly back to the car park.

Sunday, 10th February. SOUTH GOWER CIRCULAR
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 10:00am Kittle: Beaufort Inn Car Park (GR SS 565 894).
We’ll walk from Kittle to Caswell then along the coast to Three Cliffs, returning through Ilston Valley.  Afterwards, we’ll go for refreshments in the Beaufort to thank them for the free parking. A strenuous 11 mile walk.

Saturday, 16th February. NEATH CANAL TOWPATH
Meet at 11:00 am at the band stand in the middle of Victoria Park, Neath. Suggest parking in the multi-storey car park on Prince of Wales Road (adjoining SA11 3QZ) which is a short walk from Victoria Park.  From Victoria Park we will go to Stand 7 of the adjacent bus station to catch the X55 (Swansea – Neath – Glynneath) bus to the start of our walk.  The bus departs at 11:15am (www.firstgroup.com currently valid timetable – but check time nearer the date).  We should arrive at Clyne Court about 16 minutes later to start our walk south on the Neath canal towpath to Neath town centre.  Members of the Neath and Tennant Canals Trust will kindly accompany us and show us points of interest along the route.  The walk will be approximately 5 miles.  If you have a bus pass please remember to bring it with you.

Meet at 9:00am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 9:45am Pontrhydyfen: Rhyslyn car park (GR SS 800 942). Directions: M4: Junction 40: Take A4107 then left on B4287. Car park is signposted from under viaduct. Woods, valleys and hills north of Pontrhydyfen, including Tonmawr. A strenuous 11 mile walk.

Saturday, 2nd March.CYNGHORDY TO LLANDOVERY
Catch the 9:15am Heart of Wales train from Swansea High station (but check times first) or join the train anywhere – the leaders will be joining at Gowerton or Pontarddulais.  Ask for a return ticket to Cynghordy.  A moderate 8m/13km walk, ascending out of the valley to walk along a ridge with good distant views.  Approx. 4 ½hrs walking, with time for tea in Llandovery before catching the train at about 4.30pm.  There should be no charge if you have a Welsh bus pass. Note: as Arriva will no longer be running this service there is no guarantee that current arrangements will remain. If so we will meet at Llandovery rail station at 10:15am.

Meet 10:00 am at Llangennith Church (GR 429915) for 4 hours exploration of farmsteads east of the Down unseen from the highway and accessible only by foot.

Sunday, 10th March. COWBRIDGE: LLANSANNOR AND PENLLYN
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 10:30am Cowbridge: High Street: Car park behind the Town Hall (GR SS 996 747)Directions: Exit A48 at Cowbridge, follow curving left bend (very sharp bend!) into the long, straight High Street. Continue half a mile through the main shopping area then turn left at the Town Hall, (opposite Costa). The free car park is behind the Town Hall. Google directions: https://goo.gl/maps/XXiWNgLtSjp.
Some interesting buildings on this walk, including a castle and Dr Salmon’s Wells.  A pretty walk as always in this area but plenty of stiles between the fields. A moderate 10 mile walk.

Sunday, 24th March. IRON MOUNTAIN WALK
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:00am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 10:00am Blaenavon Ironworks Car Park (GR SO 248 091).
We take Hill’s Tramroad around the ironworks and industrial sites that made Blaenavon famous, visiting the summit of Blorenge before returning to Blaenavon. Fantastic views on the entire walk. A strenuous 12 mile walk.

Sunday, 31st March. MYNYDD MYDDFAI AND THE USK RESERVOIR
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:30am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 10:30am Usk Reservoir: Pont-ar-Wysg Car Park (GR SS 820 271).Directions: A4067 north then about a mile after Dan-yr-Ogof Caves, take left turn signed Trecastle. At T-junction take left turn signed Llanddeusant and follow for about 3 miles. Just before bridge and cattle grid onto open moorland, turn left into the car park. Google Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/cA5YFSh8v722. A walk with splendid views via Usk Reservoir to the Roman Camps and along the ridge of Mynydd Myddfai. Weather can change suddenly so equip yourself accordingly! A strenuous 10 mile walk.
