Sunday, 24th March. IRON MOUNTAIN WALK
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:00am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 10:00am Blaenavon Ironworks Car Park (GR SO 248 091).
We take Hill’s Tramroad around the ironworks and industrial sites that made Blaenavon famous, visiting the summit of Blorenge before returning to Blaenavon. Fantastic views on the entire walk. A strenuous 12 mile walk.

Sunday, 31st March. MYNYDD MYDDFAI AND THE USK RESERVOIR
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:30am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 10:30am Usk Reservoir: Pont-ar-Wysg Car Park (GR SS 820 271).Directions: A4067 north then about a mile after Dan-yr-Ogof Caves, take left turn signed Trecastle. At T-junction take left turn signed Llanddeusant and follow for about 3 miles. Just before bridge and cattle grid onto open moorland, turn left into the car park. Google Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/cA5YFSh8v722. A walk with splendid views via Usk Reservoir to the Roman Camps and along the ridge of Mynydd Myddfai. Weather can change suddenly so equip yourself accordingly! A strenuous 10 mile walk.

Sunday 7th April. LLANDEILO TALYBONT
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:30am Gowerton: Golf Driving Range (Next to Harvester Restaurant), (GR SS 589 969).
A circular walk via Gorseinon then towards Pontarddulais to visit the site of Llandeilo Talybont Church (now in St Fagans). We’ll return along the coast to Loughor. A moderate 10.5 mile walk.

Saturday 13th April. Mynydd Brombil, Margam   
Meet at 10:30 am by the shops next to the 12 Knights pub, Margam (GR SS 784 874) on A48 for a 7 mile moderate walk.  We follow the stream in Cwm Brombil and then a steep climb up for great views in all directions.  We continue down to Goytre and join the coastal path for the return.

Meet at 9:30am, Lower Lliw Reservoir car park by cafe (map ref SN 650 033).  Walk up the valley to the upper reservoir; walk back.  Two and a half hours.  Easy walking. Spring bird song.

Saturday 27th April. RHOSSILI AND PITTON
Meet 10:00am at Rhossili National Trust Car Park (SA3 1PP, SS 4143 8806) parking also available at Saint Mary’s Church (SA3 1PL, SS 4168 8805).  A walk to the coastguard station and around the cliffs to Ramsgrove. Passing Fall Bay with its spectacular views along the coast towards Port Eynon Point, then onto Mewslade Bay before climbing to Pitton and skirting around Rhossili Down on the Gower Way.  Historic features include a number of Iron Age promontory forts, a lime kiln and a cold war nuclear monitoring post.  A moderate 6 mile walk with approximately 1200ft of total ascent, returning by 2:00pm.

Sunday 28th April. TALYBONT RESERVOIR & CARN PICA
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 8:30am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 9:45am Torpantau: Blaen y Glyn Uchaf car park (GR SO 057 176).
Directions: After Pontsticill, follow signs to Talybont, then look out for small P sign on left, GPS 51.849 -3.371. 
A scenic walk starting with an ascent up Pant y Creigiau to walk above the east side of Talybont Reservoir. Then descending to and crossing the dam, before a tough 560m ascent up to Carn Pica and Waun Rydd. Then along the Graig Fan Las escarpment with stunning views before heading downhill back to the start. A strenuous 12 mile walk with approximately 2600ft (800m) of total ascent.

Cwmyoy and Hatterrall Hill from Llanthony Priory. Nice mix of valley and high level walking. A strenuous 11 mile walk with approximately 1970ft (600m) of total ascent.

Saturday 18th May.  SOUTHGATE AND PWLLDU HEAD
Meet 10:00am at the National Trust car park in Southgate (SA3 2DH, SS 5537 8741).  A walk across Bishopston Valley to Pwlldu Beach and up to Pwlldu Head.  Spectacular views of Pwlldu beach from a number of angles and the imposing cliffs around the headland.  Visiting an iron age promontory fort on the way back to the carpark.  A moderate 5 mile walk with approximately 1000ft of total ascent, returning by 1:30pm.

Sunday 19th May. THE HIGH RIDGES
(Joint with Swansea Ramblers)
Meet at 9:00am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 10:00am Blaen y Glyn Uchaf forestry car park (GR SO 056 175).
A 17.5km walk beginning through forestry then ascending to the high peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park: Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big. A very strenuous 11 mile walk with approximately 3117ft (950m) of total ascent. N.B. In the event of an adverse weather forecast, this walk could be varied as appropriate. Therefore, if considering going directly to the start of the walk, please notify the leader beforehand.

Saturday 25th May. PENCLAWDD AND THREE CROSSES
Meet at 10.00am at Wernbwll Car Park (GR SS 554 946) for a 6 mile moderate walk.  Take road left of the Poundffauld in Three Crosses towards Blue Anchor.  The car park is on the right, in about 3/4 mile, opposite a row of bungalows.  We walk towards Three Crosses with views over the Loughor Estuary, then back through farm land before picking up a section of the Gower Way and dropping down to the Morlais Valley on our return. The walk leader has stated that the terrain of the walk is not suitable for dogs.

Monday 3rd June. CEFN BRYN
(In association with the Gower Walking Festival)
Meet at 10:00am at Penmaen NT car park, just over the cattle grid behind Penmaen church, (GR SS 532 887). A moderate walk of approximately 5 miles over Cefn Bryn with views over North Gower and the Loughor Estuary. We will finish our walk back in Penmaen at Gower Chef Kate Probert’s L’Amuse Cookery School, which has stunning views to Three Cliffs and Oxwich Bay. A picnic lunch prepared by Kate will be available for £15 (booking for the lunch is essential as numbers are limited, please book via the Gower Walking Festival website); alternatively Gower Society members can bring their own picnic lunch to eat in Kate’s garden at the end of the walk.

Saturday 22nd June. SOCIAL STROLL ACROSS THE COMMON
Meet at 10:00am at St Peters Church in Newton, GR SS 603 882, for a walk across the common to the wildflower cafe for coffee.  The ground is flat but can be wet and muddy after prolonged rain. Back to St Peters by 1.00pm. The leader has stated dogs on short leads only, as there is livestock grazing on the common.

Meet at 10:00am Penmaen Rose Cottage Car Park (SA3 2HH, SS 5260 8845); additional parking opposite at Penmaen Car Park (SA3 2HH, SS 5269 8848) if required.  A walk over the eastern spine of Cefn Bryn, down through Crawley Woods and around the cliffs to Penmaen Burrows.  Spectacular views of Three Cliffs and Oxwich bays and chance to visit a neolithic chambered tomb and medieval castle ringwork.  A moderate 5 mile walk with approximately 1100ft of total ascent, returning by 2:00pm.

Saturday 13th July. CILIFOR, LLANRHIDIAN AND CEFN BRYN
Meet at 10:00am at lay-by west of Cilibion (GR SS 515913) for a 7.5 mile walk in north Gower.  We will ascend the old hill fort of Cilifor – with excellent views, descend to Llanrhidian then up to Arthur`s Stone before a stroll along Cefn Bryn returning past Broadpool.

Saturday 20th July. RHOSSILI DOWN FROM TANKEYLAKE
Meet at 10:30am at Tankeylake (GR SS 435 916) for a 6 mile moderate walk.  We skirt Hardings Down and join the Gower Way via White Moor and Sluxton to Fernhill Farm.  Then a steep climb up to Rhossili Down and continue to Coety Green and Llangennith.

Saturday 27th July. BISHOPSTON AND CASWELL VALLEYS
Meet 10:00am at Murton Community Centre (SA3 3AT, SS 5863 8920).  A walk through Bishopston and Caswell Valleys passing Pwlldu, Brandy Cove and Caswell Beaches on the Wales Coast Path.  If the weather permits to include a stretch of stream bed.  Historic features include silver/lead mines, remains of a medieval chapel and holy well, a number of limestone caves and ancient woodland.  A moderate 6 mile walk with approximately 1100ft of total ascent, returning by 2:30pm.

A 15.5km walk across open moorland towards Sinc Giedd avoiding the sink holes. Follow the Afan Giedd and ascend to the Fan Hir ridge. Return via the Beacons Way. A strenuous 10 mile walk with approximately 2300ft (700m) of total ascent.

Saturday 3rd August.PYLE CIRCULAR
Meet at 9:30am at Pyle Corner post office (map ref SS 580 882). A walk via Backingstone Lane (or parallel with) – Bishopston Valley floor, Hael Lane – Southgate cliffs and Three Cliffs Cafe – cliffs again – Pwlldu Head – Pwlldu – Pwlldu Lane – Pyle Corner, four and a half hours. Muddy under foot.

Saturday 17th August. PENNARD CLIFFS AND CASTLE
Meet at 10:45am at Pennard School/Library car park, GR SS 554 883 for 8 mile moderate walk.  
It is possible to travel by Nr 14 bus from Swansea (9.49am from bus station) – due to arrive at 10.30am, but please check timetable nearer the date.  A scenic stroll along Pennard Cliffs, stopping at Pobbles beach and Pennard castle.  Then onto Penmaen Church, Green Cwm and Parkmill.  There are two steep climbs but the views are worth it.

Meet at 8:30am between Guildhall and Victoria Park (GR SS 643 923) or 9:30am Upper Swansea Valley: Minor road, south of Gwyn Arms SA9 1GP (GR SN 846 165).
A steep climb out of Glyntawe to Waun Fignen Felin and on to Bwlch Giedd. Then follow the ridge above the lakes before descending to Llyn y Fan Fach and returning along the Beacons Way below the Carmarthen Fans. A strenuous 15 mile walk.

Saturday 31st August. HORTON AND PORT-EYNON
Meet 10:00am at Horton Bay Car Park (SA3 1LQ, SS 4737 8558). A walk out to Port-Eynon Point, around the coast to Overton and over the back of Port-Eynon to West Slade and Horton. Points of interest include a walled sea cave, the Gower Society commemorative monument to Gwent Jones and Stephen Lee and numerous examples of Gower stiles. A moderate 5 mile walk with approximately 700ft of total ascent, returning by 2:00pm.

Saturday 7th September. TENNANT & NEATH CANALS
Meet at 10:30 am at the bandstand in the middle of Victoria Park, Neath. Suggest parking in the multi-storey car park on Prince of Wales Road (adjoining SA11 3QZ) a short walk from Victoria Park. We will walk through Neath town centre to join the Tennant canal towpath, and follow the canal up to the Aberdulais basin, an area that was a hive of activity at the time of the industrial revolution. From Aberdulais our walk will follow the Neath canal along a pleasant rural route, passing Clyne and going on to the Resolven basin. At Resolven we can catch the X55 (Glynneath – Neath – Swansea) bus to return to our starting point in Neath. If you have a bus pass please remember to bring it with you. The walk will be approximately 7 miles.

Saturday 21st September. PARKMILL AND LUNNON
Meet 10:00am Green Cwm: Parkwood Car Park (SA3 2EH, SS 5383 8961).  A walk up to Nothill to enjoy the views over Three Cliffs bay then around Cefn Bryn and through Parkwood before heading up to Lunnon and returning though Parkmill.  Historic features include a Neolithic burial chamber and a cave thought to contain the oldest rock art in the British Isles. A moderate 6 mile walk with approximately 900ft of total ascent returning by 2:00pm.

Sunday 29th September. RHOSSILI CIRCULAR

Meet at 9:30am Rhossili: NT Car Park (charge) (GR SS 414 880).
This 17.5km walk will skirt the Downs and cross fields to Hardings Down. We’ll continue to the Bulwark and down to Cwm Ivy. Our return will be via the dunes to Broughton and on to Rhossili Down. A strenuous 11 mile walk with approximately 1969ft (600m) of total ascent.
