The Society at the Gower Show

The Society at the Gower Show

Members are entitled to wear the Society’s badge – depicting a gold portcullis on an azure background; these two colours echoing sand and sea. The portcullis represents strength and protection, a sentiment echoed in the Society’s slogan: Guarding Gower for all its worth. The badge was designed by the Society’s first Chairman, architect Ernest Morgan. He chose the symbol of the portcullis not only because of its connotation of ‘protection’, but also because it featured in the coat of arms of the Beaufort family, lords of Gower, and also that of Swansea Borough.
