These beautiful and unusual cards are reproduced from the artwork of local artists Edward and Iris Martin. They worked from their studio in Dunvant where these cards were designed and printed in the 1950s and 1960s. Many appeared in early editions of the Society’s Journal Gower, where they were admired for their innovative style.
The cards feature wood cuts or scraper board designs of local views or customs. The originals were bold black and white designs reproduced as a short print run – which were then hand-coloured by their children as a family team.
The Gower Society has now reprinted a selection of these exquisite images; we are extremely grateful for the family for allowing us to reproduce their parents’ artwork.
